Deloitte: UK firms 'going backwards' with disaster recovery
British businesses are continuing to neglect a number of continuity challenges at a time when having back-up plans in place is more important than ever, Deloitte has claimed.
Coming ahead of the start of the Business Continuity Expo in London, the risk management consultancy firm has highlighted that companies are particularly overlooking non-physical events and neglecting to safeguard themselves against potential problems concerning outsourcing and technology complexity.
Furthermore, research conducted by the company found that a worrying proportion of UK firms have gone backwards rather than forwards over the past year.
Rick Cudworth, EMEA head of business continuity at Deloitte, explained: "At a time where people are looking for increased speed of recovery and more confidence in being able to recover, fewer organisations are able to demonstrate either."
He added that, with businesses now handling record amounts of data, it needs to be realised that disaster recovery plans need to cover whole data centres and not just individual applications.
The company's research also found that the average global organisation has to deal with three natural disasters a month, for examples the fires seen in California or the floods which hit the UK last year.
