Trends switch to disaster recovery

Trends switch to disaster recoveryRecent research has revealed that a large number of businesses are now addressing their main data storage worries by prioritizing the installations of a data recovery policy.

The study, which was carried out ahead of the London based Storage Expo 2008, due to take place in October, concluded that there is now a trend of IT managers changing their priorities to take disaster scenarios into consideration.

The research found that the main reason for the switch in focus was the potential implications of data losses or security breaches, the chances of which occurring are increasing at an alarming rate.

More than eight in ten (82 per cent) of the 252 companies questioned agreed that disaster recovery had become the biggest focus, while a similar number (81 per cent) felt the rate at which volume of data storage is increasing in their company alarmed them.

Separate research from Symantec found that more than half of UK businesses (52 per cent) had suffered a security attack in the last 12 months, which shows the extent of the problem.

Another recent study found that more than one in two (53 per cent) companies that found themselves as data loss victims never fully recovered.
