8el responds to Cable and Wireless customer cull

Abandoned mid-corporates look to 8el for delivery of key telephony services

Reading, UK, June, 2006 --- Next generation network provider 8el is stepping into the shoes of Cable and Wireless (in the mid corporate space at least), in response to the Telecoms giants change of strategy to reduce its current 30,000 customer base to 3,000 large corporates and public institutions. According to their industry announcement (28/02/06) Cable and Wireless believe the move will give them clear focus to increase revenues and margins by concentrating on fewer customers and reducing complexity of their products.

The Cable and Wireless announcement ultimately leaves a large number of customers, some of whom have already received 'Notice of Termination of Account', with a 90 day deadline to locate a new supplier for potentially business critical services or face a loss of communications.

8el, who already specialise in supplying mid sized businesses with voice, data and converged services have reacted by offering Cable and Wireless customers, whose Telephony services are being terminated, a lifeline. One such company is network services provider Black Box, a technical services company dedicated to designing, building and maintaining network infrastructure systems. Having received notification from Cable and Wireless last week that their 2 direct ISDN30 connections to Cable and Wireless would cease in 3 months, the company turned to 8el to port existing numbers from Cable and Wireless to 8el.

Said Doug Boast, Group MIS Manager at Black Box "We had read in the press and were somewhat surprised about Cable and Wireless's decision to target only large corporates and more recently received a cancellation notice for the telephone lines they supply us. At this point we started to review our options, and 8el responded quickly and efficiently making our decision a simple one. Already an existing supplier, 8el seemed the logical choice and through the dedicated account management team was able to offer a solution and resolve the issue with a minimum of disruption, expanding our current contract."

Doug continued. "The transition to 8el's LineConnect novation service was accomplished swiftly and without any hassle, meaning that in reality, Cable and Wireless's announcement will have very little impact on our business."

8el aims to assist other businesses in the coming months to move seamlessly away from Cable and Wireless to their network and are naturally happy to respond to any further enquiries.

Said Justin Hamilton-Martin, Managing Director at 8el, "This announcement is clearly an opportunity for us to deliver what we do best and to a target audience that we have specialised in supplying since our inception over 6 years ago. Our mission is to supply mid sized businesses with leading edge networks that are technically robust, cost effective and proactively supported. 8el's original directive was to satisfy the growing number of mid-corporates unhappy with the level of customer care and response all too often delivered by some of the larger providers - some things haven't changed."
