Businesses failing to protect VoIP systems
A significant proportion of UK businesses are failing to ensure that their voices over IP (VoIP) networks are adequately secure, a new study has concluded.
The findings come as online communications systems become increasingly integrated within the UK workplace, with enterprises of all sizes turning to VoIP to save money and increase employee flexibility.
Despite this, however, research carried out by In-Stat revealed that over 40 per cent of the businesses polled have no specific plans in place for securing their VoIP systems.
The study also revealed that four fifths of the businesses studied have deployed some degree of VoIP functionality within their companies, again highlighting the increasing role of the technology.
"No mechanisms for securing VoIP had more than 50per cent penetration across all sizes of business," advised Victoria Fodale, an analyst at In-Stat.
"Proactive measures, including periodic security audits and pre-deployment assessments had low percentages of penetration too, even among the larger organizations."
