Business continuity measures bring unexpected bonuses
A majority of UK and European companies have reported benefiting from their business' continuity management (BCM) schemes, with many pointing to bonuses unrelated to faster recovery from disruptions.
Of those enterprises polled in a recent study undertaken by the risk advisory firm Marsh, 96 per cent revealed that their BCM plans had brought them unforeseen benefits.
These include a better understanding of business matters (cited by 50 per cent) as well as improved strategic decision-making.
Also, 52 per cent of firms said that they have enjoyed two or more additional benefits since implementing their BCM plans.
This is despite the fact that the study also found that only half of all companies believe their BCM to be used as a strategic tool to boost day-to-day operations.
Commenting on the findings, Martin Caddick, a representative from Marsh, told Computer Weekly: "Most firms are not viewing business continuity management as a compliance or insurance-related issue, but as good practice to manage their overall operational risk."
