Broadband review welcomed by Intellect
A new government document that recognises the role of technology in the creative industries in Britain has been welcomed by Intellect.
The trade association said the Creative Economy Strategy had several positive proposals, including an investigation into the options for implementing high-speed broadband in the UK.
Intellect said that its Broadband Stakeholder Group would be contributing to the review, following previous recommendations it made in its Pipe Dreams report.
"Technology is not just a part of the creative economy - it also drives growth and innovation," commented director of consumer electronics at the association Laurence Harrison.
He added that technology is "an enabler" that helps the creative economy in the UK "compete on the global basis"
Recently, Islington borough council and Cityspace formed a partnership to provide free high-speed internet access in parts of Islington.
