VoIP technology fuelling secretarial outsourcing in UK

Growing numbers of UK businesses are taking advantage of ever-improving broadband services and online communications systems to outsource secretarial work, it has been revealed.

Not only are businesses able to save money on employing a full-time secretary, outsourcing work can also free-up space in the office and also reduce their carbon footprint as they have one less employee traveling to and from the workplace, the internet-based transcription service Outsec has stated.

Furthermore, by putting into place online communications systems, such as voice over IP (VoIP) technologies, organisations and home-based workers are able to make significant savings on telephone bills.

A representative for Outsec, Richard Phillips, told the Guardian: "The outsourcing industry for secretarial work is exploding at the moment.

"They can work from home, determine their own working practices and have a huge amount of control over what they're doing."

The comments come after a recent report from the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) concluded that the ability to be flexible, including over how they employ their staff, is a major advantage smaller firms have over their larger rivals.
