Work Wise highlights winter benefits of VoIP home-working
Businesses and employees could both benefit from the increased adoption of virtual private networks and voice over IP (VoIP) systems over the winter months, Work Wise has claimed.
According to the not-for-profit group, by allowing their employees to work from home rather than travelling into the office every day, UK companies could improve both the work-to-life balance of their workforce as well as their productivity.
In addition, working from home can also have other far-reaching consequences, the body revealed.
"If all commuters could work just one day a week at home, commuter numbers would fall 20 per cent," Work Wise chief executive Paul Flaxton said.
"This would reduce road congestion and public transport over-crowding significantly."
Earlier this month a report from the HR division of the global accountancy firm PricewaterhouseCoopers revealed that the UK is currently lagging behind the rest of the world when it comes to allowing its workforce do their jobs flexibly from home.
While five per cent of the international graduates questioned in the study felt that they will mainly be working from home in the future, this proportion fell to just 0.6 per cent among UK respondents.
