CMA: VoIP represents 'the future of telephony'
Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) technology offers a number of benefits to businesses of all sizes and as such represents the future of telephony within the professional sector, an industry expert has stated.
According to Paul Fegan, the leader of the Billing and Information Management Forum at the Communications Management Association (CMA), despite the up-front costs, adopting VoIP technologies will actually allow a company to save money and reduce costs over the medium to long-term in addition to allowing for the personalisation of existing communications systems.
Online communications systems are "almost certain" to be the way of future telephony, Mr Fegan stated.
"If you've got a number of sites, then intra-organisational calls are going to be free and people can go from one office to another and take their log in and they have their profile wherever they are.
"Calls are cheaper. Network calls and intra-organisational calls are cheaper than traditional technology.
These latest comments from the CMA come after the communications watchdog Ofcom reported that there are now more than one million active VoIP users across the UK with take-up expected to increase steadily.
