UK firms look to unified communications for improved productivity
Increasing numbers of UK businesses are turning to unified communications systems and IP telephony as a means of boosting employee productivity, a new report has claimed.
According to research carried out by Dimension Data, around 60 per cent of the companies surveyed have already established virtual private networks in order to allow their staff remote access to company networks and web-mail systems, meaning that they can carry on working while at home or on the move.
Furthermore, many firms were found to be keen to adopt unified communications systems and VoIP, with the main drivers behind the trend a desire to raise productivity, improve customer satisfaction and cut costs.
Commenting on the findings, Rob Lopez managing director, solutions at Dimensions Data ,told recruitment website onrec.com: "Many enterprises, however, would like to offer VoIP telephony or softphone [telephony through computer terminal], indicating that these technologies are very much a future focus of enterprise flexible working and convergent communication strategies."
The report comes soon after experts at the recent VoiceCon show in California stated that the key to achieving effective value from unified communications systems is the ability to embed the new technology into existing business practices in order to improve communications effectiveness.
