US small business cites many advantages of VoIP
Internet telephony not only saves money but also benefits a business through its ease and flexibility, a US-based firm has explained.
Reporting on the benefits of investing in online communications, Indianapolis firm Inhabit told the local paper the Indy Star that, since switching to voice over IP (VoIP) systems three years ago, it has managed to save around £40 a month on long-distance call fees.
The company's owner Jennifer Tuttle told the newspaper: "With our new virtual service, it's so easy. You can log into your own account on the web and you know what's going on with it. There are no mistakes."
One major advantage of VoIP over a traditional fixed-line telephony system is that it allows businesses to simply "pick up and go" rather than being made to wait for a phone company to install a line.
According to figures complied by the market analyst In-Stat and published by the newspaper, the number of companies now using VoIP services has more than doubled over the past 12 months, with more than 373,000 small businesses now relying solely upon online communications systems.
