Home working is less stressful

Home working is less stressfulA new study has found that home workers are less likely to find their work stressful than those based in an office.

Only 43 per cent of those who work more than 20 hours from home per week feel a great deal of stress compared to 65 per cent of office-based workers, according to Research from Durham University's Business School.

University of Durham professor Tom Redman said that working from home promoted a sense of well-being but that some may worry about career prospects for the future due to a lack of visibility to business decision makers.

"There were worries from those we surveyed about a lack of face-time in an organisation - simply because their face wasn't there to be seen," he said.

"It seems at least for managerial and professional employees in knowledge-based industries that working from home is an antidote to the stresses of office-based working, but this may be at the expense of lower levels of support for career development."

Support for home workers has increased in recent times with the growing popularity of next generation networks and technology such as VoIP making working from home or on the move more feasible than ever.
