8el Launches CallPort Mobile - a Fixed Mobile Convergence feature to its existing CallPort platform

Reading, UK, 6th October 2009 - At the IP09 exhibition & conference, Earls Court, British managed voice and data communications provider 8el has announced the launch of CallPort Mobile, a Fixed Mobile Convergence (FMC) feature, as part of the CallPort IP Centrex platform.
CallPort Mobile provides the capability to use both WiFi and mobile networks on a single mobile device, whilst presenting one number to callers. This dual network capability of routing calls via the WiFi or GSM network provides business benefits in terms of superior call handling and cost reduction.
CallPort Mobile is suited to both large and small businesses, providing a simple solution for 'always on' communications. An increase in flexible working, along with the rise in an external workforce has driven the requirement for an FMC solution that encourages staff productivity, provides the ability to route calls to the most cost effective route and reduces hardware costs by consolidating all devices into one WiFi enabled mobile phone, lowering both CAPEX and OPEX costs.
Justin Hamilton-Martin, managing director at 8elcommented: "FMC is a key technology for businesses looking to embrace the benefits of mobile device advances. With WiFi phones becoming lower cost and global access to the Internet becoming faster and the de-facto standard for communications, this was a logical step for 8el to take. This also ties in with our official partnership with Brocade who specialise in LAN provision and have a focus on VoIP capable wireless equipment.
"We expect this add-on feature to strengthen our position in high street orientated environments such as estate agents and organisations who have invested in robust WiFi networks."
About CallPort
8el's CallPort solution is a fully managed corporate VoIP telephony service that delivers a range of features and benefits to a customer's business.
Based on IP Centrex technology, the service gives users the flexibility and sophisticated functions possible through new IP technology, but with the reliability and quality of traditional phone services. 8el manages the service remotely, but users maintain control over service configuration. Free local and national calls, plus integration with mobile phones, are added benefits. CallPort can also run alongside existing PBXs, so there is no need to make the leap to complete VoIP overnight.
