Data control will be 'big issue' in 2012
Data control will be a key issue for companies with wide area networking systems this year, an analyst has predicted.
Because more people are using new devices, there is new potential for customers to be affected by malware and data theft, independent IT security consultant Kevin Wharram explained.
Mr Wharram commented on the security worries tied to social media, stating: "With people having access to more data - especially Facebook and timelines as you know what people can do with that type of data - the control of data is going to be a big issue."
He added that the European Union has proposed a new law, which will see companies that are hit by data loss fined by two per cent of their yearly revenue.
Recently, a representative from Mozy commented that it is becoming increasingly important for firms to back-up their data.
Claire Galbois-Alcaix of Mozy explained that personal communications and business files will be stored on portable devices, so they must be backed-up for safety.
