Small firms 'don't appreciate' how much they spend on IT
Many small firms do not appreciate the amount of money they pump into IT systems such as wide area networking, it has been claimed.
All companies should monitor their expenditure, which can be completed by using a measurement named power usage effectiveness. This calculates the ratio of total power entering a data centre or server room, then compares it to what is being used, according to EcoCooling.org.
Alan Beresford, managing director at EcoCooling.org, said: "What you'll find is that many people will be truly shocked at the amount of energy that's going into IT. That obviously results in rises in both the carbon footprint and operating costs."
Mr Beresford's message could be especially important after Tufin Technologies claimed that the majority of company budgets are under review, while the number of compliance requirements is rising.
As a result, some firms may have to spend more than they anticipate on computer security.
