CallPort Operator Console
A key component of the CallPort platform is the Operator Console, which provides switchboard functionality and advanced call handling via a Windows based interface. The console delivers conferencing facilities and multi-site coverage is available to cover for holidays, sickness and disaster recovery situations.
IP technology means that telecom services are no longer fixed to a geographic location, so there is no need to have an operator on every site. The Operator Console includes the ability to centralise call management, as well as holiday and sickness cover, by using an operator at an alternative site. For example, in the case of a local disaster, the operator could even maintain full switchboard functionality working from a laptop at home.
Calls can be controlled through a combination of mouse and keyboard movements to rapidly transfer calls, announce calls, label callers and search through the directory function.

- Centralised call answering – The flexibility of the CallPort platform enables routing of inbound numbers independent of their physical location. This unique feature allows calls to regional offices, which historically would have to be delivered to the ISDN on site, to be delivered to one central office. Switchboard consolidation can be achieved whilst each regional office retains its independence as the inbound call for one regional office is differentiated from another.
- Corporate directory – Through fast index searching, the Operator Console can lookup any user in the organisation within seconds. Extended details allow the operator to transfer the call to any number listed, not just to the internal extension.
- Presence– The ability to identify a user’s status is provided through Presence. Linked with the Corporate Directory, the operator can identify if a user is logged in or out, or on the phone without having to attempt to put the caller through.
- Conferencing facilities – The Operator Console provides all the functionality of a powerful voice conferencing bridge. 8el's easy to use conferencing service enables the switchboard operator to control a conference, adding and removing participants using the standard drag and drop method. The operator can communicate privately with any of the participants and through a simple colour code system can check the status of the callers and whether they require assistance.
- Location independent – The Operator Console is not tied to a fixed location or hardware. The platform is software based and is driven by HTTP through the web to the 8el Core. Console operators spread amongst offices within an organisation can see and service calls destined for all consoles.
- Night service – Pre configured forwarding rules can be enabled and disabled from the console and applied to various groups configured through the CAP.
