IP Freeport

For many organisations, telephony access into key sites is integral to their business operations. Whilst a data connection is suitable for everyday operation and the routing of in and outbound calls, 8el has developed the IP Freeport to co-exist with its CallPort IP Centrex service.

The IP Freeport provides phones with the ability to breakout to local ISDN2 or ISDN30 channels in the event of a network outage, providing a lifeline route for external communications. The IP Freeport is suitable for a quiet office environment and is available in either a non rack mounted or a 1U version.

The IP Freeport can also be used for gsm breakout, where 07 traffic can be terminated locally via a gsm gateway. This benefits organisations looking to reduce fixed to mobile costs, whilst all other call destinations benefit from 8el's competitive CallPort tariff.

  • Proxy capability – The IP Freeport ensures internal calls within an office remain on the LAN and are not routed to the VoIP core and back. Proxy functionality ensures efficiency of the Wide Area Networks bandwidth between the remote site and the VoIP core.
  • Call Admission Control (CAC) – The IP Freeport implements Call Admission Control so that the WAN bandwidth does not get oversubscribed by VoIP calls. Call Admission Control works with Quality of Service to ensure the highest quality to the maximum amount of concurrent calls placed on the WAN.
  • Remote diagnostic tools - Provides the 8el NOC with the ability to run remote diagnostics of the LAN and IP phones, includes HTTP server, TFTP server, Telnet, and VNC support.
  • DHCP server - Provides the IP phones with an IP address.
  • ISDN2 or ISNDN30 - ISDN2 and ISDN30 circuits can be connected into the IP Freeport and used as backup in the event that the primary access circuit is unavailable.
